DAILY SIP: BRUSCHETTA MARTINI

Garden, quaffable.
It’s like your mother always said: Drink your vegetables.
Wait, your mother was a lush who thought cocktail onions and green olives were dinner, right?
In any case, the Bruschetta Martini from D.vino at Monte Carlo has all the bases covered. Muddle fresh basil leaves, then mix with Organic Crop tomato vodka and dry vermouth. Strain it into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with half a cherry tomato.
Now, if you’re like us, you’re thinking, “Bloody Marys are an abomination unto the lord and tomatoes should be reserved solely for pizzas and macaroni.” You wouldn’t be wrong, and, frankly, high-five for agreeing with us on this important piece of business. However, the Bruschetta Martini actually has more of a light, fruity pop to it than a heavy, plodding tomatosity. It’s almost more sweet than savory.
There’s still an unmistakable tomato twang to it, so by necessity, you’ll have to order it as an aperitif. Naturally, it pairs with the bruschetta — and when you put them together, the Martini loses some of that tomatoish edge and finishes clean and only slightly sweet.
