Start Year Right by Indulging for First Meal

 

LAS VEGAS (TheStreet) -- All across the country people will be starting their New Year's resolutions of fewer calories, more exercise and the like. TravelsinTaste prefers to keep the party going, so we sought out those special places where indulgence reigns supreme on the first day of the New Year.

What place says indulgence better than Las Vegas? MOzen Bistro, in the local Mandarin Oriental Hotel, is a tribute to the multiple flavors of Asia. A play on "Mandarin Oriental" and "zen," the name is apt, given the restaurant's clean, crisp interior, which is overshadowed only by its eclectic Asian menu. At once authentic and contemporary, the menu focuses primarily on the four types of Asian cuisine in addition to a fifth element: Western cooking. During MOzen's elegant brunch buffet, guests will be treated to tray-passed appetizers, a raw bar, sushi bar and yogurt breakfast station. If you're not a champagne type -- you'd like to indulge with a serious alcohol, but prefer a twist -- the bloody mary cart at Morels French Steakhouse & Bistro in the Palazzo(LVS) may be for you. The restaurant boasts comfortable patio dining overlooking the Strip, two private dining rooms and several bars -- only one of which is for cocktails -- as well as a windowed cellar with more than 400 varieties of wine. One can linger in luxury while having a tableside-crafted bloody mary or maria with shaved horseradish, fresh-cut herbs, pickled garnish and a choice of frozen vodka or tequila. In addition to such personal service, Morels offers such luxurious cuisine as Truffle Mac & Cheese with blue, parmesan, ementhal and gruyere cheeses, a Snake River Farms American Kobe Burger and, for dessert, a second cart come by with macarons.
